How Often Should You Clean Your Apartment? A Realistic Schedule - Soda Cleaning, Toronto

Cleaning-schedule articles tend to be written for people with a spare hour every day. This one is written for how downtown Toronto actually lives: small space, busy weeks, maybe a pet, definitely not a daily mopping habit.

The Honest Baseline

A lived-in apartment stays genuinely clean on this cadence:

Weekly

  • Bathroom: toilet, sink, a fast wipe of the shower glass
  • Kitchen: counters, stovetop, sink, and the floor in front of them
  • Floors in the rooms you live in — vacuum beats sweeping in a condo
  • Sheets in the wash

Every two weeks

  • Full floors, including under things you normally skirt
  • Dusting: shelves, screens, sills
  • Shower and tub properly, not just the glass
  • Mirrors

Monthly

  • Baseboards and vents
  • Inside the microwave; a wipe of cabinet fronts
  • Fridge audit: toss, then wipe the shelves
  • Under the couch cushions — you know why

Quarterly

  • Inside windows, oven, behind and under furniture, light fixtures

What Changes the Math

Pets move everything up one notch: weekly becomes twice-weekly for floors, and the couch needs a real vacuuming, not a cushion flip. Two or more people in a one-bathroom unit means the bathroom is a weekly job, no exceptions. Allergy season in Toronto (May–June, August ragweed) rewards more frequent dusting with a damp microfibre cloth — dry dusting just relocates the problem.

Where a Recurring Clean Fits

The pattern we see: people keep up with the weekly list and quietly lose the biweekly and monthly layers — that’s where a home slides from “a bit untidy” to “needs a deep clean.” The fix isn’t more discipline; it’s putting the layer you skip on someone else’s calendar.

A recurring home cleaning every two or four weeks resets the whole stack: bathrooms, kitchen, dusting, floors, the baseboards you’ve been negotiating with. Our flat rates run $129 to $219 by home size, we use your supplies and products, and recurring clients get priority scheduling with a consistent cleaner.

If it’s been long enough that “recurring” feels aspirational, start with one thorough visit and keep it maintained from there — that first-visit conversation is exactly what the notes field on the quote form is for.
